Vision
The Ilirska Bistrica Tourist Information Centre (TIC) aims to become a central institution for the sustainable development of tourism in the municipality of Ilirska Bistrica. It aims to create a destination that combines a rich cultural and natural heritage and offers top-quality outdoor products related to cycling, hiking and other forms of active leisure. Our aim is to create a distinctive and attractive destination that will meet the needs of discerning, active and environmentally conscious visitors, thus contributing to the long-term preservation of the natural and cultural heritage and the well-being of the local community.
In line with our mission and commitments, we strive to create a balanced and quality tourism offer that is sustainable and responsible, and that will enable long-term business success. The activities of the Institute will be aimed at preserving ecosystems, natural values, the diversity of habitats and the cultural landscape, which is the result of the long-standing coexistence between local people and nature.
Key Activities of the Institute
1. Promotion and marketing of the destination: designing attractive promotional materials, working with journalists and influencers and active presence on digital platforms.
2. Developing sustainable tourism products: developing products such as hiking, cycling and culinary experiences that highlight local distinctiveness and a sustainable approach.
3. Connecting local stakeholders: coordinating and networking tourism providers, associations and public institutions to achieve common goals.
4. Information services: assisting visitors and locals by providing information on tourism offers, events and services.
5. Event organisation: the preparation and organisation of events, such as events, guided tours and weddings, in order to increase the attractiveness of the destination.
6. E-bikes: renting and maintaining electric bicycles for visitors and locals.
7. Preserving heritage: guided tours at key tourist sites such as Prem Castle, Kette Memorial Room, Zalesje Partisan Hospital and the collection of The Škoromati.
8. Monitoring market trends: adapting strategies and offers based on analysis of visitor data and feedback.
By creating a sustainable and distinctive tourist destination, we want Ilirska Bistrica to become a synonym for quality outdoor experiences and authentic cultural heritage, offering unforgettable moments for visitors and long-term prosperity and development for the local community.
Ilirska Bistrica as part of the Green Karst destination
The municipality of Ilirska Bistrica is an integral part of the Green Karst destination, which coincides with the Primorsko-Notranjska statistical region. This area includes six municipalities: Bloke, Cerknica, Loška Dolina, Ilirska Bistrica, Pivka and Postojna.
In 2019, Destination Green Karst has joined the Green Schemes of Slovenian Tourism, a national programme and certification scheme that brings together efforts for the sustainable development of tourism in Slovenia under the umbrella brand Slovenia Green.
Since 2020, Green Karst has held the Slovenia Green Destination bronze label, which it successfully retained in 2023. This label confirms that we are an environmentally and socially friendly destination. The Slovenian Green Tourism Scheme offers destinations and providers concrete tools to assess and improve their sustainability performance and promotes this green performance through the Slovenia Green label.

Ilirska Bistrica, as part of the Green Karst Destination, contributes to the achievement of these objectives and the preservation of the natural and cultural heritage through its activities and its focus on sustainable development.

In 2021, we started implementing the Green&Safe label, awarded by the Slovenian Tourist Board. The Green&Safe brand, installed in TICs, emphasises that Ilirska Bistrica is a sustainable and responsible destination. At the ITB Berlin NOW international tourism fair, the Green&Safe sign was awarded the Silver Award of The Golden City Gate for excellence in tourism promotion. This award reinforces our commitment to quality, sustainability and responsible tourism.
