Hodnik’s Mill

Ilirska Bistrica once prospered through its thriving timber trade, mills, and sawmills. Today, little remains of this technical heritage, but Hodnik's Mill continues to withstand the passage of time. Older residents of Ilirska Bistrica still remember the mill in operation, though few realise that its history stretches back to the sixteenth century. The imposing mill building, constructed in 1565, now houses an extensive ethnographic collection well worth a visit.

With a single admission ticket, you can visit not only the mill and sawmill, but also the shoemaker's workshop collection and the Beekeepers' Home, where you can learn about the development of beekeeping and Anton Žnideršič's revolutionary beehive.
