Ludvik Peršet’s shoemaking workshop

Before the Second World War, Ludvik Perše trained as a shoemaker. At the age of eighteen, he was conscripted into the German army and stationed in Italy. Following Italy's capitulation, he joined the Yugoslav Overseas Brigades. In 1945, he marched into Ilirska Bistrica with his brigade and, after the war, opened his own shoemaking workshop.
In 1954, Ludvik earned his master shoemaker's qualification in Ljubljana. A highly skilled craftsman, he generously passed on his knowledge to a new generation of apprentices. Today, in memory of this well-known Ilirska Bistrica artisan, the former barbershop on Plac houses a visitor information point featuring Ludvik Perše's original shoemaking workshop.

With a single admission ticket you can see three attractions: the shoemaker's workshop collection, the preserved Hodnik family watermill and sawmill and The Beekeeping House where you can learn about the development of beekeeping and Anton Žnideršič's revolutionary beehive.
