The Buzz of School Life: An Exhibition on the History of Primary Education in the Ilirska Bistrica Region

Welcome to a journey through the history of primary education!

The permanent exhibition School Life opens the door to the history of education in the municipality of Ilirska Bistrica, placing it within a broader social context. In the premises of the former Prem Primary School, where children carefully practiced their letters on writing slates and in notebooks from 1826 to 1977, visitors can now discover how education has evolved and changed over time.

The exhibition is located in an authentic environment, in the building of the former primary school in Prem. It is divided into two parts. In one of the former classrooms, you will learn about the history of primary education in Ilirska Bistrica from the time of the Habsburg Monarchy, through the Fascist era and the Second World War, to socialist Yugoslavia and the independent Republic of Slovenia. In the second former classroom, you will step into the past with an authentic reconstruction of a classroom from the time of socialist Yugoslavia.

Combined guided tour of the Kette Memorial Room, “School Days” exhibition, and Prem Castle: €70 per group, plus admission fees according to the current price list for Prem Castle and the Dragotin Kette Memorial Room.
