Mašun Forest Learning Trail
The Mašun Trail is 1.7 kilometres long and takes about 45 minutes to complete. There are 7 educational signs along the way and the entire route is marked with a red and white circle. It is suitable for all visitors who can walk on the rugged forest terrain, but footwear for easier terrain is recommended.

Valvasor described the Snežnik plateau more than 300 years ago. Today, the area is a natural heritage highlight, with the beech forests on the upper forest boundary being a particular highlight. It is because of these beech trees that the Snežnik Forest Reserve has been inscribed on the World Heritage List. The beech tree, the main tree species of Slovenian forests, is an indispensable source of life for both forest animals and humans.
On the trail, visitors will also learn about the large carnivores of the Slovenian forests: the wolf, which lives in a pack and reveals its presence by howling; the brown bear, the largest animal in our forests; and the lynx, a rare and mysterious species whose population is being restored today. The trail leads to Ana¨s rock, where you can enjoy a magnificent view of Snežnik and the surrounding landscape.
Along with beech, the Dinaric forests are also home to fir, one of the tallest tree species in the region. Along the way, visitors will learn about the development of the forest, the importance of the forest edge and meadows, and finally, the interesting history of the Mašun estate and the rich cultural heritage of the area.
