Experience a unique cycling tour that will take you in the footsteps of one of Slovenia's most important painters - Tone Kralj. Discover his art, the history of the places and the beautiful nature of the Ilirska Bistrica region.

Basic information

  • Meeting point: TIC Ilirska Bistrica (parking lot behind Dom na Vidmu)
  • Duration: 5-6 hours
  • Minimum number of persons: 4
  • Maximum number of people: up to 14 (or depending on availability of bikes), you can bring your own bikes. In this case, the group can be larger.
  • Helmets: provide your own.
  • The route is about 50km and 500 metres of climbing, suitable for e-bikes or those with a little more fitness
  • Languages of the guided tours: slovenian, croatian, english and french

Route description

After the assembly in the centre of Ilirska Bistrica, we cycle up to the parish church of St Peter, where we see the Royal paintings from the 1950s.

Then descend into the valley, cross the River Reka and climb up to the village of Prem, where you will visit the Church of St Helena - the first church painted by Tone Kralj in 1921.

Continue past Ilirska Bistrica towards the source of the River Reka to the village of Podgraje, where you can see the exceptional Royal Paintings.

Finally, we return to Ilirska Bistrica and visit the Church of St George in the Old Town.
