Vizita in Ilirska Bistrica 2026 – 23.5

The Vizita tradition in the Ilirska Bistrica region dates back to the reign of Maria Theresa, when young men were conscripted into the Imperial Army. Although military service is no longer compulsory in Slovenia, preserving this long-standing custom remains an important way of safeguarding the region's cultural heritage.

The visitors wear white shirts, pin on a flower and a ribbon, and drive a carriage decorated with many flowers made of crepe paper.

You are warmly invited to join us on Saturday, 23 May 2026, at 10:00 a.m. in the parking area behind the Videm Community Centre!

The military service information session is organized by the Ministry of Defence, the Postojna Defence Office, with the support of the Municipality of Ilirska Bistrica and the Ilirska Bistrica Tourist Information Centre (TIC).

Notice of car park closure on Saturday, 23 May

Please note that the parking area behind the Videm Community Centre will be closed until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, 23 May 2026.
Residents who regularly leave their vehicles there overnight are kindly asked to remove them on the evening of Friday, 22 May.

The car park will be closed for the cultural and ethnological event VIZITA 2026, starting at 10:00.
