On Tuesday, 22 September 2026, at 6 PM, Prem Castle will unveil a brand-new permanent exhibition, Stone Remembers – The Story of the Reka Valley, from Hillforts to Castles.

The exhibition was created as part of the Interreg Terra Gothica Incognita project, led at the Regional Museum of Koper by curator Mateja Kakež.

At the heart of the exhibition is the history of Prem Castle, while its story also opens a window onto the rich history of the wider area that is now the Municipality of Ilirska Bistrica.
Through engaging and educational interactive stations, historical artefacts and a variety of multimedia content, visitors can discover what life was like at Gradišče Trnovo near Ilirska Bistrica, the largest settlement in the Reka Valley during the Early Iron Age. The exhibition also explores castles as centres of power in the Middle Ages, times of crisis and the flourishing of Gothic culture, the lives of knights, the noble families who owned Prem Castle, and much more.

The new exhibition invites you to discover Prem Castle in a whole new way — through centuries of stories still whispered by the castle’s ancient stones.
