Discover Kette’s Trnovo

We’ll kick off European Mobility Week in Ilirska Bistrica with an urban walking tour through Kette’s Trnovo.

Jane’s Walks are community-led walks through urban neighbourhoods that encourage walking, bring people together, and create opportunities to talk about local challenges and ways to improve the places where we live. They aim to strengthen a sense of community and inspire residents to help create more welcoming and enjoyable neighbourhoods. This time, we’ll take a stroll through Kette’s Trnovo.

Trnovo was a favourite holiday destination for poet Dragotin Kette — but it was also a place where he found inspiration and created some of his most memorable works. Did you know that several of his poems were written right here, including Včeraj sem pozdravil ljubo (also known as To vse ljubezen stori), Jagned and V mlinu?

The walk will begin at 5:00 PM at Dragotin Kette Primary School in Ilirska Bistrica. From there, we’ll walk to the railway station, continue along Kettejeva Street, and then make our way to the Trnovo Monastery, St Peter’s Church and the former primary school, before returning to Dragotin Kette Primary School.
Along the way, we’ll uncover the stories that have shaped this neighbourhood and share our own experiences and memories of Trnovo.

We’ll round off the walk with a kamishibai performance of Tales of the Seamstress and the Little Scissors, followed by a reading of Kette’s poetry at Dom na Vidmu.

In case of bad weather, the event will be postponed to a later date.
