Church of St. Helen

The Parish Church of St. Helen in Prem, built to replace an earlier 17th-century church, was constructed in the Neo-Romanesque style with pronounced Baroque features. Although its architecture is not among the most outstanding examples of the period, the church is well known and well worth a visit for its remarkable interior, painted by Tone Kralj in 1921. The church stands on a hill a few hundred metres above the village and Prem Castle.

The National Gallery of Slovenia in Ljubljana is currently presenting the exhibition Tone Kralj (1900–1975): Visionary Mystic, offering an in-depth insight into the life and work of one of the most important Slovenian visual artists of the 20th century. The exhibition highlights Kralj’s remarkable artistic career and enables visitors to appreciate his work within a broader Slovenian and European context.
To accompany the exhibition, a comprehensive catalogue has been published in both Slovenian and English. It features reproductions of all the exhibited works, along with an expert essay by the exhibition’s curator, Goran Milovanović:

The exhibition is complemented by a varied accompanying programme, which allows visitors to get to know the artist's work in more depth.
