On Volovja Reber, the Central European, Alpine, Dinaric and Mediterranean climate regions converge. The sunny southern slopes host many thermophilic plants, such as sage, smoke trees, asparagus and the beautiful Illyrian iris. Rich grasslands near the top of the ridge are home to endangered Alpine flowers, like clusius, spring and great yellow gentian, daphne alpina and numerous orchids. In gentle depressions protected from the fierce winds, peonies and irises grow. It's a botanical paradise and a real treat for any eye capable of appreciating these colorful flower carpets.
